Package Koufukuron 2021 “Needless and non-urgent Packages” Exhibition October 24 - November 7, 2021

Needless and non-urgent Greetings

Something that is neither absolutely necessary nor hastily necessary.
This is what the Kojien (7th edition) means by “needless and non-urgent.

I think that's very rich.

For example, “a journey that is neither absolutely necessary nor hastily necessary” is an enviably rich journey, don't you think?

I think it's because I often take a “necessary and hurried trip,” for example, a “necessary and hurried business trip.
For example, a business trip. Business trip? That's great! Raise your hand if you think so. Yes!
I think it's because you can use a business trip as an excuse to visit places you don't necessarily need to go, or take a lot of extra days even though your business can be done quickly.

For example, “shopping that is not absolutely necessary and does not need to be done in a hurry” is also rich, isn't it? This is different from the richness of having too much money for extravagant shopping.

For example, “Conversation that is not absolutely necessary and does not need to be done in a hurry” is also rich, isn't it? I envy those who have a partner with whom they can have such a conversation.

For example, “study that is not absolutely necessary and does not need to be done in a hurry” I dislike study because it is forced upon me. But when it is “not absolutely necessary and does not need to be done in a hurry,” I don't know what it is, but I enjoy it. Isn't this a rich thing?

“It's not absolutely necessary, and there's no rush to do it.”

So I can't help but feel that if we eliminate “things that are not absolutely necessary and do not need to be done in a hurry,” life will become somewhat lonely.

Package design requires rational “beauty of use” that eliminates waste, but I believe that package design also creates “communication”.

This time, I dared to consider “non-essential packages,” that is, “designs that are neither absolutely necessary nor hastily done,” with the idea that we might discover something important that holds the key to “communication” created by package design. This is why we have chosen this as our theme.

So, although this is “an exhibition that is neither necessary nor hurried,” we hope that you will take a look at it and get some hints for thinking about design and communication in the future.

Thank you very much!
